Ears!!!!

Many of you know that in the last month we have been to the doctor countless times with an unbelievable number of ear infections. It's like 2 or 3 days after she finishes a round of antibiotics she has a sleepless night, followed by a fever, we go to the doctor, and he says there is another infection. I've just been so upset because my little munchkin has had to go through so much pain...shots...meds. I mean she's only 10 months old so it's not like you can really sit her down & explain that the shot she's about to get will make her feel better. She feels awful and she looks up at you as they stick the shot in almost to say, "Mommy! How could you do this to me?!" At least when they get their monthly shots (2 months, 4 months, etc) they aren't sick already & haven't had sleepless nights & haven't had fever....
Well today we went for a check-up on her ears. She has fluid on them...not a full blown infection yet, but Dr. M said they were ticking time bombs. He put us on another antibiotic 2X a day. He referred us to an ENT, Dr. Knox. Anyone know him? So far I've heard he's really old, but he's great.
I know babies have tubes put in their ears everyday & it really shouldn't be a big deal, right? Well, I have a lot of anxiety about it for some reason. I do want her to be better though, so if this is the route we need to take then we'll take it!

Here she is after her appointment today. Happy as a little Lark! :)

I chopped her head off in this one, but I just think her eyes are so blue! Love them! :)

Hi Bonnie,

I totally understand how frightening it is to hear your child may need surgery. Let me just say this to try and ease your fear a tiny bit....I have actually been in the OR and seen tubes be placed a couple times and it is so quick and fast! They give the babies versed (a drug to make them relax and not remember much), then they let them go to sleep, and once they are totally asleep, that is when they intubate and do the IV. The babies are not awake for any of the bad stuff! They usually try to schedule the little ones first thing so they can have their milk/food as soon as they are in recovery. I would say from start to finish (once the baby is asleep) it only takes about 15-30 minutes for the tubes to be placed. Poor little thing. Please keep us updated on how your appointment with Dr. Knox goes. Hopefully, one of your blog readers will have heard of him and have good things to say. P.S. We have that same cute outfit Miss Hadley is wearing in her pics!

Bonnie,

I read your blog through a friend of a friend's blog. I think we may have acutally gone to Dalraida together and I know you know the Dunn's (Blake and Casey) who are also good friends of mine. Anyways we use Dr. Simon with the same pediatrician practice and we went through the same thing with our little guy. He was 10 months when he got his and we used Dr. Vaughn who is in with Dr. Knox. They are a great group of doctors and will definitely take good care of your little girl. Good Luck! What little bit they have to go through to get the tubes is so worth the long run. Like I said we had ours in May 09 and we've only had 1 ear infection since the tubes and that was a month or two after the tubes.

I will be praying that tubes will be the answer and no more infections for that sweet baby. She is sooo pretty! I just love her hair pulled back in that big bow...so cute! :)

Hi Bonnie,
Our pediatrician had great things to say about Dr. Knox. She recommended him and Dr. Cauthen (who we ended up using b/c he did my niece and nephew's tubes). Both of my girls have tubes and it made them feel so much better!

Poor baby. I hope everything works out for her, I hate that she has had to deal with so many ear infections. I remember when Jessica (Henig) went through that with David. I'm not sure who did his tubes, you should get in touch with her. I don't know Dr. Knox personally but I know my dad does. I'll ask him about him. On another note, Hadley's eyes are incredible!!
